History: Designed & built by Horace Tate at Montague Bay, Hobart in 1922. Intrepid is built from Huon Pine parallel diagonal planking with Oregon spars. Intrepid started winning races as soon as she was launched. Recently at the 2009 Australian Wooden Boat Festival Intrepid took out 3rd place in the Classic Yacht Rally. Over the years she has had many owners, and many uses, although she is still almost in her original form, with no major alterations. In 2006 the current owner spent a great deal of time (& money) renovating the hull. Prior to this the double layers of parallel diagonal planks were starting to separate and leak. The owner decided to remove all of the corking and replace with a mixture of King Billy & Western Red Cedar Splines. Then a 6 oz layer of fiberglass was layed over the entire hull. The inboard rudder was changed to transom mount with a small skeg in front. The flat plate steel keel had a frame built around it to give it an airfoil shape. The top side were left as they were accept for a coat of paint and minor deck repairs. She is a great boat to sail, set up for single handed with self tacking head sail.
