Cherana Details on Boat Register
Designed and built by Ted Hood as his own boat, but regularly mistaken by passersby for a classic S&S.
Fibreglass hull and deck moulded under Lloyd’s supervision by Tyler Yachts UK. Shipped to Holland for solid teak fit out by the famous Frans Maas’ Yard. (Including beautiful and practical tiled open fireplace). Shipped to the United States, launched and rigged by Hoods as “Robin” in time for Ted to compete in the 1969 SORC. “Concerto” has a fascinating history, she has completed many famous East Coast USA races, including 2 Newport-Bermuda Races. Sailed across the Pacific in the early 80’s, “Concerto” has since cruised Australia extensively, and is ready to head off again at a moment’s notice. Originally rigged as a ketch or “racing yawl” under the CCA Rule of the time, her mizzen has been removed and stored and as a result she has a lovely long and roomy cockpit. For the past 7 years she has been a much loved family boat and weekender on Pittwater and her standing and running rigging were replaced in 2008 before a 1500nm Queensland cruise last Christmas school holidays. Numerous photographs, articles and full details are available at www.bluewaterprod.com.au/concerto or by contacting her owner John Lamble on 0408 970 087. $235,000
Aoma is reported to have been designed by William Fyfe and built in 1899 by the famous Logan Brothers in Auckland. She was built in triple-planked kauri with the typical gaff rig and bowsprit of the era. Her hull is in great condition, has been dynel sheathed 20 years ago and is still water-tight. The mast has recently fractured at the top and middle spreaders and was removed. While many fittings and the roller-reefing boom were kept, the mast is not repairable. The BMW motor recently flooded during a Melbourne northerly when the anti-siphoning was not up to the task of a heavy slop in the harbour and it is likely to be heavily corroded internally.
She is looking for a new lease of life, maybe from a syndicate or small group who could put the time and funds into her. The owner is very realistic in regards to the value of the boat and keen to see her restored to her former glory
